All the locations that form part of the Mountaineering Villages initiative are mountain sport pioneers in their own regions. That is why that the mountains and mountain activities occupy an important part in the cultural consciousness of locals and guests alike. An understanding of the essential harmony between man and nature is very much alive here, but there is widespread respect for all natural boundaries.
Less, but better – that is the mantra
The Alpine Association’s Mountaineering Villages thereby meet in full the aims of the Alpine Convention, a treaty which commits signatories to sustainable development throughout the Alpine region.

A new Mountaineering village in Slovenia

On September 28th 2019, the Slovenian village of Luče has joined the international network of Mountaineering Villages, an initiative by the Alpine Associations. Luče wins its visitors over not only with spectacular mountaineering experiences, like hiking Ojstrica or Raduha, but also with its local culture and landscapes. After Jezersko has joined the mountaineering Villages in 2018, Luče is Slovenia’s second mountaineering village.
