Mountain, lake, culture – a harmonious threesome that draws visitors to Attersee lake. Up in the high limestone mountains in the Höllengebirge range there is a remoteness and wildness, which one would not expect to find in these parts. After a lengthy hike, a dip in the Attersee lake is twice as refreshing. Culturally, how could it be otherwise for a Mountaineering Village, the Art and Culture Trail offers a stirring insight into the town’s past as a mecca for artists.
One special attraction for climbing enthusiasts is the via ferrata, opened 2012 on the Mahdlgupf, requiring almost 1,200 metres of cable. For those with sufficient endurance and fitness, this “iron road” offers some rewarding ridge climbing and, what is more, they will be treated to an unforgettable view over the Attersee lake with its adjacent mountains.
