Only a few steps on foot and before you know it, you are out of the centre of the village and in the Tauerntal valley, in the heart of a vast mountain pasture, and the Seebachtal and Dösental valleys are also within easy reach of Mallnitz. All are renowned for their scenic beauty. One reason for this is surely the towering mountains that overlook these valleys. The Ankogel, the Säuleck and, not least, the Hochalmspitz, known as the Queen of the Tauern, get mountain climbers’ pulses racing.

The proximity of the mountains, in combination with excellent accessibility by public transport (Mallnitz has a mainline railway station) make this Mountaineering Village a popular holiday destination for tourists wishing to leave their car at home. The Hohe Tauern National Park regularly offers guided hikes and the Naturparkhaus Center with its exhibition is definitely worth a visit.
